Sri Lanka’s Marine Tourism Initiative: SLTDA Launches Diving & Coastal Roadmap

April 2025 marked the launch of Sri Lanka’s Marine Tourism Roadmap, developed by the SLTDA in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The initiative promotes responsible marine tourism—ranging from diving and snorkeling to whale and dolphin watching—while setting clear priorities for conserving fragile coastal ecosystems from Kalpitiya, Galle, Trincomalee, Mannar, and Jaffna.

Diving: Sri Lanka & Maldives – A World Beneath the Waves:

Sri Lanka is fast becoming a top diving destination, with coral reefs, shipwrecks, and rich marine life for both beginners and advanced divers. The East Coast (May–October) offers coral gardens and whale sightings, while the South and West Coasts (November–April) are ideal for reef and wreck dives.

Just an hour’s flight away, the Maldives offers a perfect complement to Sri Lanka’s diving scene. Its atolls are world-renowned for manta rays, whale sharks, and crystal-clear waters that rival any destination on earth.
